INDULGENCE of the Jubilee -
What is the Indulgence of Jubilee?
Indulgence is part of the sacramental treasures of the Church. It is the one that administers and apply with the power to forgive what Jesus Christ granted to His apostles by the merit of His Passion, Death and Resurrection.
All sins carry the guilt and deserve punishment. The guilt is pardoned during confession and the pain of punishment is satisfied when we do works of charity in God’s grace and with a contrite heart, thus we glorify God in us. The pain of punishment is left to be satisfied during our lifetime or in Purgatory.
This is the importance of Indulgence; it is a gift of God that removes all nuance of guilt during our life here on earth, through a good intention and action born of a contrite heart desiring purification every day.
What are the conditions to gain Indulgence?
“In the Jubilee Year Christians will stand with the renewed wonder of faith before the love of the Father, who gave his Son, "that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life" (Jn. 3:16). (Tertio Millenio Adveniente by Pope John Paul II, 32)
Therefore an invitation goes to every faithful to consider these following dispositions:
1. Like what we have suggested in the Letter of Lent 2008; each parish will organize a catechesis touching the topic of Reconciliation and personal encounter with Jesus-
2. Celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation (sacramental confession) and receive Holy Communion during, before or after a pilgrimage. It should be within eight (8) days before or after the pilgrimage.
3. Pray for the intention of the Holy Father, profess the Creed, together pray Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory be… May also pray for other personal and devotional prayers.
