What is a Jubilee

JUBILEE: 50years
Posted: Mar 1, 2008

What is a Jubilee?

Jubilee is a year of grace in which the Church invites her children to be reconciled with God, with him/herself and with others.  The will of God, the Father, is that all His children intensify their spiritual life through the personal encounter with Jesus Christ his Son.

In the Old Testament, God ordered that every 50 years is to celebrate the jubilee year, where all debts are pardoned, and time to practice justice and mercy. (Lev. 25, 10-13)

Now is the time of grace, now is the day of salvation! We live under a new alliance. Our faith in the Resurrection tells us that Christ has saved us, but this faith and hope must be sustained by works of holiness. That is why the Jubilee is a unique opportunity for us to present ourselves before God through a total reconciliation.

The Church has always maintain the observance of jubilee years every 25, 50, 100, or on special dates like what we had last year 2000.
